“With the web morphing into one giant worldwide conversation, why would ANYONE want a website that just sits there passively?”

So TRUE!

If you are interested in personal branding or have a business YOU NEED A DYNAMIC SITE OR A BLOG. Period!!!

I made a quick video to illustrate what I mean:
YouTube Preview Image

I agree that having a static website comes in handy at times.  HOWEVER

“Dynamic sites also offer a wealth of interactive features and add ons via plugins– podcasting, squawkboxes, commenting, forums, newsfeeds, polls, weather boxes, calendars, events planners,– you name it, and it’s probably got a plugin or add on that will do it for most of the major web aps. These add-ons make your site sticky– if there’s a conversation going on, then people come back, they subscribe, they become a “regular” which, in turn, develops a certain trust between you and that visitor that would be hard to achieve on a site that just sits there.”

The ultimate advantages of having a blog are feedback, ongoing conversations, and dialogue.  If the “business of business is people” wouldn’t you want to be in the cutting edge of bringing value to your customers.  Thus enhancing your credibility, trust, and respect.

Be honest with your customers and ask:

1.)    What can I do to bring more value to you?

2.)    What can I do to be of service?

3.)    What would you like to see more of? And what would you like to see less of?

Ask them with sincerity, concern, and care.

Be great at developing and cultivating your relationships.

Ultimately people do business with people they like, trust, and respect.

Be a person of resource.

The relationship with your customer does not start at the close of the sale.  The relationship is an on-going process.  You want to put a system in place of keeping in touch.  And a blog is great way to do that.

Blogging is indeed a lifestyle effort and you do need to put a valuable rich content out.

I strongly agree with author of Sales Bible Jeffrey Gitomer to write a 1 page article of “The Philosophy of how I treat a customer” and watch how you “WOW” your customer.

Anyway, I can’t wait to share with you the entire website by the end of April.

If you have any thoughts of why Blog is better than a static website…Please leave a comment below.  If you disagree with me. Awesome!  I’d LOVE to hear from you as well.

  • great post as usual!

  • Therese, this is a very valuable post - and I love the video!

Absolutely agree with you, a blog has so many advantages over a static website! The 2-ways communication model of "Web 2.0" is surely taking over the traditional 1-way communication of "Web 1.0".

This statement rings very true to me, as this is something I have personally experienced too:
"Be great at developing and cultivating your relationships. Ultimately people do business with people they like, trust, and respect."

Thank you for this excellent post Therese.

  • Hi Andre, As Robin Sharma said, "The old way of leading is dead. Many of our best-known organizations have fallen and some of our most revered leaders have lost face. The global economy has now transformed and with all the new media ranging from Twitter to YouTube, everyone now can build a following. And lead their field."What I have come to understand and as I grow as a Leader is that, "people always come first." And I enjoy developing and cultivating relationships with people such as yourself my family, friends, readers, bloggers, prospects, entrepreneurs, and mentors. There's never been a better time to establish yourself as an authority and be creative in our relationships.

  • Our friend Mariz Brown at Facebook linked your post on her wall. The title was catchy so I read it, found it really interesting, and bookmarked your blog. Keep it up!

  • Super post on blogs vs. websites.

I love that quote from Southwest Airlines..."The business of business is people" That's why they are my favorite airline!

I have both, a website and a blog. The blog is alive! I feel alive every time I write a post and get comments. It's so much fun and has totally created friendships and partners. The website is sort of boring!!

Thanks for this great post Therese and I look forward to more!

  • There's a real power in having a conversation versus a static page of information.

In fact, I think that some of the best pages of information are really frames and backdrops for deeper conversations.

  • Hi J.D. There's is definitely power in conversation and engaging as a community. In the end, it boils down to basic human needs to connect and form deeper relationships. Thank You for stopping by J.D. I appreciate your time checking out my post. Have a great one ;)

  • Excellent info and video. I am also a big fan of "tipsheets" to help build credibility and a following. It's all about being interactive and proactive= blogs. "Lead with your ears"---love it!

    Susan

  • Hi Susan, I'm not sure what "tipsheets" is. I would like to know more about that and will more likely visit your site for the information. Yeah I heard "Lead with your ears" with Ken Blanchard and I thought it was genius. That's been missing in our Leadership qualities. Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your words so much. I can't wait to visit your blog ;)

  • Therese!
I agree with you, the reason I feel that blogging is better a lot of times is because it keeps the content and information fresh. A blog reminds me more of a plant you continue to water it nurture and maintain it in order to grow. These are wonderful insights!!!

    BAKER

  • Hi Baker, Funny! I just mentioned the plant metaphor. haha ;) Great minds think alike. Yes! I have enjoyed blogging very much. Also being able to share openly, being transparent, giving value, and building community with everyone here has been amazing. I will not trade it for the world. Thanks Baker!!!!

  • Relationships is the keyword here. And you are so right about credibility and trust! I love your videos Therese, you are beautiful and the way you present your ideas is just awesome!

  • Hi Lana, Yes Relationships is key! It must grow deeper. Much like a plant grows so must we in developing & cultivating our relationships whether it is with a client, reader, spouse, children, or customer. So I liked what you said here!!! Thanks for the compliment. It's been really out of my comfort zone doing videos. Anyway I always enjoy your blogpost and learn from you each and every time. Thanks Lana! And you keep up the good work that you do offline or online. I appreciate everything about you. Love & Blessings

  • Kamal Tayal

I do agree with you, though I'm not much into blogging and all, your blogging site is the first one I follow regularly. I feel it is much better than static websites because we always found something new on blogging and it grabs our attention which is not so often in static websites. It's easy to connect with the like kind people on blogging, like if I am interested in automobiles and I started a blogging site for this (as you mentioned in he video) than chances are more that I get connected with the people having the same interest and get to know alot of new things from them.

I love all your quotes, videos and efforts you put in there.

Thanks and you have a great time ahead. :)

  • Kamal, Yeah the constant update & interaction is definitely more appealing than a static website that just sits there. I think both have their place but Blogging is all about one's own personal development and journey as well as discovering your gifts and sharing it with the world. Whether its for a business, philosophy, or ones gift... It shouldn't die inside you. You must share it with others you never know who your going to inspire along the way. Much like your emails. I love getting them and I am sure you spark joy in other people every time you send it. Thank You for commenting I appreciate it very much Kamal ;)

  • Mariz Brown

Oh I love this. Especially that I'm still a student on Blogging. I don't have one yet, for personal reasons. But when I'm ready I will be coming to you for sure.
I love the value added you mentioned, and you are a living proof of this. You have always given more than you have taken, a strength and virtue I love about.
I also love all the comments from everyone, I learned something new!

  • Hi Sis Mariz, thanks for stopping BY :) I will be there every step of the way. Whenever you need my help. Love ya sis! :)

  • Hey Therese!

Thanks for pointing out the difference between the static websites vs. a blog. I see so many local businesses that just have their static websites and don't even realize how much blogs can work to their advantage in SEO. They could go after so many different keywords and they don't even realize it!

The possibilities are endless with blogs!

Thanks for your message today! :)
.-= Amanda´s last blog ..What Keeps Me Up At Night? =-.

  • Amanda, I am really excited for the journey your embarking in within the local business owners. That's incredible! Blogging is "leading with your ears" and with the new economy it's no longer about BIG Corporations hiding behind closed doors. Everything is about transparency. And the more you can scale your caring (got it from Gary V) the more you will have customers, prospects, & readers that will be loyal. In the end it's about your engagement efforts. Thank You Amanda for your Love and support. I appreciate you ;)

  • Hi Therese,
Wonderful post!!! I can't say it enough! I love having my blog as
well and as you know re-launched it under my name. I've
been able to connect with so many people I wouldn't have
because of my blog. Not only that a blog that's successful
gives a much personal look into the writer and what
    they are passionate about.

Like you said it creates an
instant credibility and likability if done well.
I've noticed there are a lot of websites that
have a blog but that is the most
neglected part and that is such a huge mistake.

    I like you
    truly believe that the
value on the blog is what keeps
people coming back over and over again.

Thanks so much another valuable video!

You look beautiful by the way!
    And YES the weather
    has been AMAZING in CALI!

    With deep appreciation,
    Thérèse

  • Hi Thérèse, I was really happy when you converted your blog to your name. You have been my collaborating partner from the beginning. Remember when we barely started talking about it @ the Raw Vegan place and look how much we have accomplished in such short months. I do agree with Chris Brogan that with blogging you have to "Spread listening/monitoring as deep as you can." It's about genuine care and true friendships. I thank You for being here. I always appreciate all your wonderful comments. It always bring a smile to my face ;)

  • Awesome post Therese. Now you know why I started BlogActionClass.com lol. Blogs are SO versatile and are fantastic for building community however they can double as a static site or even both.

I personally love the community behind blogging and think it will be around for a long time to come as long as we provide great value and a place for people to express themselves in.

    Great Video!

  • Hey Therese,

Static websites are like polar bears - on the verge of extinction.

I could flood you with a trillion reasons why a blog dominates over a website anytime. For our time's sakes, I'll point out 2

    1) Active in the appearance and relatively easy to enhance/maintain, well, compared to a website
    2) Best community interface - It's super-user friendly and the total burner when it comes down to the interaction with you reader/clients
    - I haven't seen that with a static website yet ( and I never will !)

Blogs are just more natural, flexible, vibrant and simple

Static websites, it's time tooo say goodbyeeeee

    You get the message :)

Have a fantastic week! :)
