“The great tragedy is that most people go through life and die with their music still in them”

Kuta Satay house and Wine Bar located in the Lower East Side of New York City is a stylish and warm little dining establishment that carries the best selection of great wine, tasty eclectic Asian cuisine and phenomenal customer service. A perfect intimate and cozy setting to come and catch up with your best friend, and the kind of atmosphere that really allows for intimate and inspiring conversation. Perhaps you can also come by yourself to relax, sip on great wine, dine on tasty Asian cuisine, and allow the staff at Kuta to treat you like an old friend. And with great honor, it is an old friend of mine, an inspiring and genuine soul, Iman Rizky, who is the engine of passion behind Kuta.

The engine of passion? What does that mean? Ever since I met Iman Rizky 10 years ago, he has always been doing and pursuing all the things he is passionate about in life.  Some of his passions are:

  • Music
  • Design
  • Travel
  • Photography
  • family and friends
  • food and wine
  • networking
  • entrepreneurship

Wow that’s a lot of passion right??? And that’s why I am sooooo excited to share him with all of you, because he taught me that any seed, if planted with passion, will bear the loveliest of fruit .  And that is definitely the energy that is given to Kuta. It is a small establishment, but you can feel the warmth in the space because it is a labor of love.

Here’s an Interview Piece with Iman and his journey in finding and discovering his passion

Some of our favorites and what we learned from Iman:

  • Proud of his culture
  • Travel Journeys and remembering what he liked—Vision in Mind
  • From Financial Analyst in Wall Street to a bus boy- He never gave up on his passion even with disapproval and lack of support from family and friends
  • When your following your passion LIFE starts to change
  • Everything he does comes from the heart
  • Be Open- Test the water
  • Be yourself
  • You will be the only person that knows your passion
  • Music is his freedom and Time for himself

Passion is the fuel to your dreams, your wings to freedom, and the gateway to living the life that you want.  One of the key ingredients to living a life that is successful to you, is PASSION.  Without that burning sensation in our heart, we often blindly lead ourselves to slip into a mundane life and place our dreams inside a box with the lid shut close.  But if you keep your passion alive and exercise it daily, that spark of fire will light up a universe of possibilities.  The sky is not big enough to measure what you can do with your passion.

First, you must discover your passion.  When you do something and you feel that tickle of joy in your heart, then you know it is yours.  And the absolute path to discover your ultimate passion in life is when you just BE YOURSELF and FOLLOW YOUR HEART.

Passion. very strong word, very bold. One may go through an entire life not ever knowing their Passion. It's articles like this and interviews that inspire our society to pursue their passion rather than what needs to be done.
WE only live once after all, and we must do everything in our power to pursue only what we enjoy, which is our passion.
Iman is right, don't try so hard in looking for your passion. Just keep trying and if you truly listen to your heart you will arrive to it.
I myself is finally finding out my passion and this video is an affirmation.

  • Omg that Hafiz poem is SO beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing! Love you lots! I am so glad you are sharing your beauty with the world through this blog.

  • Thank you Therese for sharing your post and video about Imans passion! Wow the tire store is now a beautiful restaurant!

I asked someone once, if you won the lottery and money didn't matter to you, what would you do? Thats another way people can know what their passion is.

My main passion is to help educate parents, children, and teens so they won't become victims of child molestation, rape, or death.

Helping others any way I can.

Old cars and new super cars.

Thank you Therese for this great post!

  • Hey Therese,
This was a great interview! I believe that passion is what fuels the fire for our dreams. Currently, my passion is in writing, and inspiring and empowering people to follow their dreams by operating from their higher self. I believe everyone has unique talents its really up to the person to develop it if they choose.

  • Therese,

This story is truly inspiring. To turn a tire shop into a restaurant is INSANE. He knew what he wanted and went after it. It's giving me so much more courage to quit my job. I have so much I want to do and I know with hard work and persistence I will succeed! Thank you for giving me further affirmation to do this!

Thanks for all that you do!

  • What a fantastic post Therese! I can certainly resonate with this post and with Iman. At one time, I thought to be really good at one thing you had to be passionate and focus on that one thing alone. In my younger years as a writer & musician this was certainly true. I chose music over writing although I still continued to write lyrics for my music, I focused souly on music.

    Today my passions being
    Blogging
    Writing
Playing guitar, Piano and programming music
    Speaking
    Photography
    Entrepreneurship
    Psychology
    Spirituality
    Etc...etc..

I can can truly say I'm passionate about all of these things and more but commit my resources to them as i feel in the flow to do so. I've matured so that I'm not concerned about being in any one box.

Iman embodies what so many people would like to, no boundaries! No limits and living with passion.

You did great highlighting Iman's story & passions and it should be an inspiration to anyone thinking they have to stay in the "man's mental box." They don't! Thank you!

  • Tony, Ah, I never knew you were a musician. WOW! No wonder you compose words beautifully as well. You should definitely make a video with you playing piano. Just giving you another friendly nudge haha :) Yes! Iman embodies Possibility. I wish I got to post more of his story. We hung out another 2-3 hours and just talked about his journey. How he had no money and his mom would come and check up on him to make sure he had food in his house. Ahhh so many things he told me to get where he is now... The looks of it from the outside looks pretty but the journey was intense and arduous. He definitely rode on his faith and his ability to make an outstanding life for himself.
    Thanks for visiting ;)
Looking forward to your post this week for sure.

    Have the best week
    Your Friend always

  • Hey Therese!

Thank you so much for highlighting Iman's story. I found it very inspiring and informational! I really like what he said about trying too hard to find your passion can sometimes keep you from finding it. Instead being OPEN makes so much sense to me. The pattern of quitting the job you dislike to follow your passion, getting slack for quitting that job from friends and family, and then winding your way towards what you are ultimately passionate about is one I hear about from many different successful people.

I would love to visit his restaurant the next time I'm in NYC! Who knows maybe I'll have to meet you there the next time your on the east coast! :)

Much love and success to you!

  • Amanda,
Yeah there was a lot of things he said that echoes with me as well and one of them was being "open" for sure. I would love to meet up with you next time I'm in NYC that would be awesome!! Glad you got value from the post. I enjoyed interviewing him for sure.
    Love & Light

  • Therese, dear, I absolutely LOVED this post and the interview! So different and unique and definitely not something you see a lot on other blogs.

I am a big believer in discovering who you are and what you are passionate about. I preach it everywhere I go:) This is really the most important step to happiness and fulfillment in life.

As far as what I am passionate about and what I resonate with the most:
truth, clarity, self-realization (they are all interconnected)
    meaning
    creative freedom
    inspiration
    conscious growth

Thanks for such an awesome post. Keep rocking Therese, you are so in the flow!

  • Hi Lana, Yeah I enjoy bringing creativity into my work. ALso I love learning about people and his/her life journey. It brings warmth to my heart. • Therese & Lina, wow what a GREAT idea interviewing people who are living and breathing their passion! Great post and interview - Iman's story is a shining example of being authentic and courageously following his heart. The fact that he came from the same country I came from, makes it extra inspirational ;-). Would definitely pay him a visit when I get the chance to visit NY!

As for my top 5 passions:
    Music
    Spirituality
    Personal development
    To inspire
To help others getting what they want

    Peace & Blessings,
    Andre

  • Hi Andre, Yeah It was a total blast. He had no idea he was being interviewed. Lina called him last minute. Needless to say none of the interview was scripted. As you can already tell. Iman does live and breath his passion. I can see it in his eyes the way he talks about it. He has such a GREAT emotion. I like that he is Indonesian too ;)
I love your top 5 passions. Thank You for sharing them here. I love you!

  • OMG! That night was so much fun. Iman is so wonderful! I feel so fortunate that I got to witness it all. There are so many golden goodies in this interview. The key is that Iman always said yes to life and that is what I find most inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing it!
    A few of my passions:
    Filmmaking
    Acting
    Writing
    Inspiring
    Spirituality
    Family & Friends

  • Hi Thérèse, First of all I want to extend my gratitude to you for helping Lina & I with this particular project. I know at first it seemed impossible with the lighting. And somehow we made it happen. So Thank YOU also...
I love Hafiz poems one of them was,
"I rarely let the word No escape
    from my Mouth
Because it is so plain to my soul
    that God has shouted, Yes!Yes!Yes
To every luminous movement in Existence"
Saying YES creates that ripples effect of positivity in every action you make in Life.
    It breathes creation.
Wayne Dyer said, "Think of the River merging with the ocean at the moment it becomes the ocean. You can almost hear the sound of Yes being whispered in those moments." Beautiful ;)

  • Sandy F. Winston

Therese!! GREAT post! The interview is inspiring! I too love the concept of "testing the waters". That is a great way of describing life's journey.
I love hearing about other people's journey in pursuing their passion. It is great learning opportunity and it's awesome to know there are others out there who are courageous and creative with their choices.
    Keep up the good work!!
I haven't taken the passion test but I am aware of a few of my passions:

    -art
    -music
    -teaching
    -dancing
    -dogs :)

    Love,
    Sandy

  • Thanks Sandy I love your list of PASSION. It's embodies you for sure. ;)

  • erlina sinaga

Thank you Therese... for collaborating on this article. Iman is one of the closest person I hold dear in my heart, because he is such an inspiration, big hearted and such a genuine person. It's not the size of the party that matters, but how you dance. And Iman is one of those person that dances passionately, because in everything he does, he will do it fully. I learned a lot from your interview as well, and some of the things I don't even know yet about him. But one thing I learned the most is that life is a big ocean and we do have to test the water, and if you keep your heart on your passion, the path will eventually takes you there.

    In living passionately,

    Erlina

  • Erlina, I bow to thee sweetie for having the VISION to create this memorable Interview. I think I learned the MOST just by listening. It's been an exciting ride journeying with passionate and purposeful people such as yourself. Life is soooooooooo sweet with you in it.
    Big Thanks honey ;)
    Love you
