Job Career or Mission

We are all travelers in this life, although few of us see is as that, but when you view life from a higher angle and broader perspective, it becomes an ART.  One travel we must make in life is finding purpose and passion for what we do within our work, our career.

    Wonderful message Therese.
I meet people everyday that are looking for meaning & passion in their work. They are begrudgingly going through life because there is no real purpose or meaning in their work. How can one be happy or have a good attitude when they don’t feel fulfilled with their work?

I myself am going through what I call a “Big Fat Change” and finding all new meaning in my work. Directing my energies into one big fat mission. Consolidation for me and simplicity is my focus today.

I LOVE Robins cab driver video. “I represent myself” is such an awesome simplistic attitude! I hadn’t see this yet and it added so much value to my day. You’re awesome! Thank you!

    Much love to you Therese!

    Tony,
Thanks for sharing what your going through. Clarity and simplicity is definitely something that I have embraced over the years. Now I can see why your blog has so much post about being Zen. Good for YOU!
I also liked the cab driver awesome declaration, “I represent myself.” He is someone that values and respect what he does for a living. That video hit me too!
    Thanks for your visit :)

Thank you for this awesome post!

What we do everyday definitely has an effect on us
but when we infuse what we do with positive
energy, positivity flows back to us.

I think everyone can take a little bit out of this post.

I think if someone is really at a job they do not love,
in addition to changing their attitude asking themselves
these questions will assist in the journey:
-What lesson am I here to learn?
-What am I here to give?
-What energy does this place need that
I’m excellent at giving that I can leave behind? (This
can be creativity, humor, diversity to name a few)
    -Who can I serve here?

The truth is most people hate their jobs because
they find they are not important or not valued, and
if that is the case it’s important to start giving that to yourself.
Once you do either the energy will change or you won’t be there
anymore. The universe will open up doors and new
    opportunities.

Thanks again for this wonderful post. I thoroughly enjoyed it
    and will share it!

PS: Being a New Yorker and a great accent decipherer (acting school my dear)…I willing to
bet the cabbie is from Haiti. It’s interesting b/c that is a value
that instilled in many Haitian people. It doesn’t matter what your
job is you do it as if it matters and other people will notice you do too. Love it!

    Thérèse,
Thank you for holding my hand and guiding my heart.

Your excellent questions could have been an extension Part 11 Series of “Job Career or Mission” you have given it much thought. I do appreciate those questions. What has worked for me over the years esp. when I am at a job where dissatisfaction is coloring my environment. I send silent blessings to everything I do. From the moment I wake up, to the conversations I will have with co-workers, to finding little inspiration in my day. Merely using the Universe as my awesome partner to guide me in everything I do whether it’s working at a job or being a mom, cooking, in business HAS HAD A TREMENDOUS IMPACT in my world.

Marci Shimoff book “Happy for No Reason” mentions great conductor Arturo Toscanini son was asked, “What did Arturo ranked as his most important achievement” His son Walter said, “For my father there can be no such thing. Whatever he happens to be doing at the moment is the BIGGEST thing in his life–whether it’s conducting a symphony or peeling an orange.” What a GREAT WAY to LIVE!!!!

Marci Schimoff – “Happy for no reason” is great stuff. I love your video’s and it’s clear you found your mission:) I have given this much thought lately because I am part of an 8 week program designing my life plan for the next ten years. So not only do I treat my work like a mission, I have designed a personal mission statement to live by:

“My Mission is to Love Everyone & Everything without condition. To tap into my Boundless Potential and Live my Divine Purpose; Fearlessly connecting with as many people as possible and with the best of my ability, serve & help them live abundant and limitless lives; leaving the world a better place for having been here.”

Therese, you never ceases to amaze me. Powerful message, wonderful post and videos. You know I absolutely love Marci’s “Happy for No Reason book” too… I’m going to re-read it soon.

I heard and read that story you shared in your video about the 3 bricklayers many times before, but somehow it really hit home when you told the story! Uncannily, your message tied beautifully with what my friends and I talked about last night, at our fortnightly Wealth & Wisdom Evening.

From the story of the 3 brick layers, ‘What you do’ is the same thing (laying bricks), but there are different meanings that you can give to it. Most of us (me included, when my old conditioned beliefs are showing up) get caught up in thinking that there is only one possible meaning, feel a certain way, behave as if that is THE truth, and it determines the result we get. We do no realize that there are countless possible meanings and if the meaning we attached to it does not serve us, we have the power to change it!

The meaning you give it determines whether you see what you do as a job, career, a mission, or anything in between. And in turn it determines how much fulfillment you experience! So it is very real that we do create our own reality.

The topic of this post is an area where at times I still have my challenges – that is one of the reasons why I love doing inner works so much, as there are deep rooted conditioned beliefs I’d like to change. Anyway I am happy to see that I am on the right direction – your video further confirms it, so thank you!

I love the Robin Sharma clip – James the NY cab driver is a real example of leading without title. It’s something close to my heart, as it is one of my ‘big picture’ life missions: be a great leader by example – no title required.

Thank you thank you thank you for this beautiful reminder to embrace our unique potential and be open to what unfolds in front of us everyday.

Life IS a joy. To have someone like you in it makes it even more so, Therese :-)

    Love & Blessings,

    Andre,
Going back to it, I really did write this post for me. I know it sounds utterly selfish. But over the years I have really done some inner work (just as you have) and I started thinking deeply about what it’s like to really LIVE LIFE PASSIONATELY. This of course has to include work. So much of what you saw here today has been an overarching principles that I started to live by slowly over the years. Just like you I still struggle. It is a constant battle. Because as you know even if you have a job career or mission—) It’s been studied over the years that our BRAIN DOES NOT LIKE ROUTINE. I think what’s always helpful is bringing your heart along with whatever you do. I mention Joy. Being in the present Moment. Service. And Love. Once you bring forth all areas then you can definitely move onto feeling and Living purposeful.

Your friendship and support keeps me going and make life sweeeeetttttt.

Hope I can hear more about Wealth & Wisdom. I’d like to know more about that and how it’s going for you :)
    Cheers

Therese You’re such a beautiful person and it shows in everything you do. I’m so happy that we’re friends!

I was reading something recently about a teacher giving a test to his students and the last question on the test was: What is the house keepers first name here at the school? A student didn’t know what her first name was, so he left it blank. The teacher said no matter what a persons job is, we should get to know everyone’s first name since we all play a significant part in each others lives.

You give from your heart and it shows.

    You are a success!

    Hi Therese,

Wow, your video really nailed it for me. Right now I’m going through some stuff at work, where I feel I’m being mistreated. Therefore, I was not doing my job with passion and enthusiasm as I was doing it before. Thanks for opening my eyes, I now wonder what my customers are thinking when I met with them this week. Thanks for your kind words and wisdom.

    Doris,
There are 2 ways of meeting difficulties. You alter the difficulties or you alter yourself to meet them. And when you meet it with the opportunity to learn and grow with your situation. You will then begin to take few steps of self-awareness. Life is but a chance for you to learn and grow.
May you have an outstanding week coming up. Keep up your GREAT ATTITUDE! and you will attract most what you feel inside.
    Love to you :)
    Keep shining

They videos are amazing, You hit the nail right on with your videos. You may forget a person’s name, or what they have said or taught you, but you will never forget how a person makes you feel.

There is a deep natural happiness inside when you connect with others through your heart, and there is a different feeling of happiness when you do well at your job. You definitely have shown the ability on how to identify these 2 very different entities, and I love how you encourage the deeper essences of natural EVOLution through LOVE.

Your commitment to compliment almost everyone you talk to, or have eye contact with, will open doors you never thought existed. You will feel more gratitude within then ever, and compliments from the Universe that can not be expressed with words. Its a feeling baby, its a LIFESTYLE.

Thanks for sharing, looking forward to seeing more Videos of success from with in. Love you so much, I can only thank the Universe for putting you in my tracks, as we collided head on with reckless abandonment.

You are so right Therese! Thank you so much for sharing! How can we be truly happy if we don’t see how what we are doing on a daily basis is bringing more beauty, happiness, and light to our world? How can we be truly happy if we are not in alignment with our own integrity and divine mission? You explained it all so beautifully!

I think given a choice, most individuals will generally treat people nice rather than not. Sometimes it just takes a brief moment of self retrospection or a friend/stranger to nudge back into the right direction.

Wow!!!! I totally love this post!!! Everyone has a heroic story to tell within their lives and their journey, and you can always find inspiration from a brick layer or a taxi driver.

I personally love love taxi driver. I love to listen to people’s story. Story of their lives. Unfortunately I don’t take taxi here in Los Angeles. But whenever I am traveling, I always pay attention to taxi driver, and always ask their story.

One in particular, will never leave my memory because he was really inspiring. It was when I was in Jakarta a few years ago, and this taxi driver was telling me about his life story. He told me that he has 5 kids, and the youngest one was 5 years old, and the oldest one in high school. His family live in a village outside of Jakarta. So he told me that he is working hard, sometimes 7 days a week, in the city, driving a cab so he could provide for his family. And he has a goal that year, he wants to start a little duck farm. His goal is to have 1000 ducks so that his wife could start selling the eggs in the market, and he could work less in the city and spend more time with his family. At the time, he only have 100 ducks. Each duck only cost 50 cent in US dollar, but mind you that income per capita and standard of living in US is low. So he told me that he works extra shift, sometimes he just sleep a few hours in the car in a harsh city to be a cab driver, so that he could pave a better way of living for his family. I was so touched. The usual tipping amount is probably 50 cent, but I gave him $10.00, and I told him that I am buying him 20 ducks. It was the best $10.00 spent ever!!!! He was sooooo happy, and I was so happy to hear his story.

Stop and listen to people. You never know who will touch and inspire you. Just like the cab driver I met in Jakarta, I was touched to see his hard work and love for his family, and focus for a better way of living.

    Love and gratitude,

    Erlina
