I wasn’t always a HEALTH FREAK! Actually I was far from it.  I would sit endlessly watch T.V. for hours, eating Doritos chips, and drinking sodas.  I remember when I lived in NYC for the first time.  I wanted to look cute so I would wear high heels all the time and never ever wear sneakers & despised walking everywhere.  My husband Jeff looked at me and said, “We’re going to get you sneakers today because you won’t last in the city with those shoes.”  I thought to myself, “oh, no really? Walking all over again. Arrghhh.”

The shift of healthier mindset took place when I studied yoga in my early 20s.  I went deeper and dug myself in even more research with Holistic health.  I remember being so enthralled with the new information that I practiced it every day as well as taught it twice to mentally ill population clients.  My emphasis was stretching and doing full deep breath work.

For once in my life, I felt liberated.  And I felt a sense of freedom and lightness as I began to let go of certain patterns I was attaching myself to.

10 Tips for a better healthy Lifestyle- Honor & Love Your Body

1.) Give thanks- Everyday you wake up, there is a mission for you to accomplish. You are given a new gift.  Go out there and make something spectacular.  First of all, never ever forget to give thanks to the Divine.

2.) Smoothies- I enjoy 3 cups of smoothie for breakfast.  If you are on the go constantly, plan your meal the night before, make sure you have great snacks to follow your meal regimen such as nuts, berries, banana, apples, dried mango etc…

3.) Eat Live Raw Food everyday—anything that touches the soil and sunshine. So good percentage of organic vegetables and fruits.  Good portion of alkaline food.

4.) Resolve to keep your mind at ease—when you leave work, leave work.  Don’t bring home any noise of negativity, despair, or fear.  Your thoughts are very powerful.

5.) Stay Active- Here’s a good practice when you’re watching T.V. stretch your arms and your legs.   Keep yourself active. Don’t take your body for granted.

6.) Have a good amount of sunshine–The Natural Vitamin D   I take advantage of the sun when I am running or walking for 30 minutes.

7.) Practice Meditation – Find a comfortable place, quite place for reflection, rejuvenation, and stillness.

8.) 8 hour plan- I borrowed this from Clarisa Vargas “12 Resolutions for a Healthier Year” 8 hours of sleep, 8 hours of work, and 8 hours to take care of yourself and your family.  I am still practicing this until now.  I heard sleeping before 10pm every night will increase your likelihood of happiness everyday.

9.) Don’t forget to drink half of your body weight of clear water in ounces per day at room temperature.  I have to remind myself this every day.

10.) Make time to play. I don’t mean video games.  My playfulness time is hanging out with my son. We draw, paint or write.  I dance a lot.  What’s yours?

Absolutely love the showing of the food you eat. It is very easy to tell you are an energetic person looking to guide and inspire others. Strawberries and blueberries - what awesome foods. Keep up your good work here - I love learning from you.

  • Hey Therese! Awesome tips you've shared here! I love your enthusiasm and energy girl! :)

Thanks Amanda. Doing my best to keep up with my son's energy. Thanks for stopping by ;)

  • Therese I love this post. I know a lot of people who wouldn't agree with number 10 though, they're addicted to gaming :)

The 8 hour work schedule is something new to me, but I am getting a lot more done then when I used to work 12 hours. When you're properly rested and stress free, you become more productive, that may be reason these 3 8's work to make the perfect schedule.

5 stars on this post, because I'm giving it serious thought.

Thank You for stopping by. How u been? Yeah I know a lot of people that wouldn’t agree with me too haha! The 8-8-8 is something I’m still practicing though because I stay up reading to my son, hanging out with hubby, and blogging all night lol! Anyway I think with everything requires numerous amount of discipline but once done consistently over time can make profound change in one’s life. Thanks for stopping by Karl. It’s always great to hear from you

  • I like this and think we should all give thanks a lot more as I am even guilty of taking a lot of things for granted. I also make time to do something I enjoy each day - no matter what it is or how much time left in the day I have.

It could be going for a short driving listening to a song I like or just something new and exciting I want to try.

    Thanks for the post! :)

  • Hi Eric, I am so happy to hear from you. I have seen you many times in other people’s blog and always wanted to say Hi and connect. So glad to hear you make time to do something you enjoy each day. I think that is very crucial in raising our won vibrations and inclining our mind towards joy. I can’t say that I am guilty of taking things for granted because I come from Philippines in the farm side of town. We cherished rice to couch. I didn’t have much growing up. So I thank God in every moment in everyday. I feel truly blessed to be alive and making a difference in a small or big way.
Thanks for stopping by Eric. I appreciate it.

    Hi Therese,

Awesome tips. My challenge is completely 'leaving work.' It's hard to avoid when you're on the computer ;) I have a mini getaway planned... like you, I'm going to leave technology behind. As you've said, it's important to leave work and connect with nature.
I appreciate the reminder for a healthy lifestyle. Keep going, girl!

  • Kim, hahaha I am the same way. My motivation is my son. He wants me to get off the computer and play with him. His at that age where his climbing and being hyper all over the place. It's nice to shut down the laptop, do deep breathing, and exchange laughter with my son. Thanks Kim for stopping ;)

Thanks for sharing the wonderful tips on how to get your daily fruits in. I love fruits, sometimes we are just to lazy to peel, and cut the fruits into serving sizes. Using the blender is much faster, less to clean, and easier to down blend fruits with your kids.

Great alternative to energy drinks or coffee while at work. Nuts are a great complimentary to nibble on while you enjoy your smoothie. I am an advent coffee drinker and I must say blend fruits with the RIGHT JUICE to get taste right, beats a good cup of joe any day.

Just know it may take a few tries and blends to get taste right. I sometimes use some milk, it makes it much smoother. At the end the choice yours.

Thanks for the eating more healthy and consciously tips. If you start your day right, it will set the momentum for the rest of the day, and maybe the rest of the week. Looking forward to your other post. 143

  • Hi Jeff, Thanks my love. I really owe it to you and your dad. I enjoyed living in NYC because your parents would eat clean and nourishing food. Thanks for always making me dinner esp. when I got started on eating mostly vegetarian. You have been my #1 support in changing my eating healthy lifestyle. Thanks Jeff for everything! Yes you are definitely right when you start your day right it sets the tone for the rest of the week. Thanks love!

  • Hi Therese,
Great list here. All very important points for a healthy mind and attitude. Especially important to me is #1, an attitude of gratitude elevates our consciousness so we are the highest expressions of ourselves. I give three gratitudes throughout the day: One for something I can easily take for granted (wow! running water!). One for the present moment to remind me that all is well (my health, my family etc.). And one for the future that I am creating and how great it will feel when I reach my goals.

Great tip about the 8-8-8 rule. So simple and genius.

  • Thank You so much Robert. I love practicing attitude of gratitude. I mentioned it here because you are so right that it “elevates our consciousness so we are at the highest expression of ourselves.” I look up to you because you have 3 gratitudes you run throughout the day. I will start doing that as well. Thanks for taking small steps and making it very significant and poignant. I appreciate you stopping by Robert. I’ll see you around. Have a great week!
ps. I like the 8-8-8 rule as well. Thanks

  • Excellent list Therese!
I actually use a lot of the items you mentioned in my own life as well. You pretty much nailed each one perfectly. The one I know I have to work on is being more consistent with my diet and food choices. :)

  • Baker, Good for you!!! I think it takes to build up good healthy habits. It definitely takes practice and discipline. I started with exercise, then moved on to my diet, and now it’s all about taking consistent action. I have to remind myself of the result which is feeling GREAT and ultimately having the right amount of energy and vitality.
Thank you for stopping by my friend ;)

  • Hi Therese,

The thing that stood out the most in your outline for me
was the 3x8 balance of the time in one day.

    It is my new goal!

    Thank you!

    Robert

  • Hi Robert, that seems to be everyone’s favorite. I have been trying to do my best to implement that. I figured if I can accomplish it 3-4 days out of the week then I‘m moving in the right direction. I thank you for stopping by Robert.
I hope to see you around.
Thanks a lot and have a magnificent day

  • Therese, it would be great if you could share your favorite smoothie recipe with us :-)

I especially liked your 8-hour rule. It seems like the most balanced approach to living. I must admit that going to bed before 10 p.m. is unrealistic for me right now, but getting 8 hours of sleep (no matter what time you actually go to bed) is a vitally important rule for me.
.-= Anastasiya´s last blog ..How to Find the Missing Component of Your Life Balance =-.

  • Hi Anastasiya,
Of course I grabbed strawberries, blueberries, banana, flaxseed, rice milk or soy milk and my fave juice mango. Depending how much you want to drink. I certainly have a glass in the morning. It's great that my son likes it. I also enjoyed the 8 hour rule. And yes being in bed before 10pm is also unrealistic for me since I blog at night. But I thought it was worth mentioning. Thanks for stopping by ;) and if you have any tips, ideas, or comments for healthy lifestyle. I would love to learn from you. Thanks for stopping by sweetie!

  • Therese,

    Great list!

I agree with everything you put on your list. I also would like to emphasize the importance of nutrition. A lot of times, we eat out of convenience and not necessity. This leads to poor diet choices. It's easy to get caught up in the fast food crave and finger foods - but at what cost? Eating live, organic, alkaline food is critical for a healthy lifestyle.

    Peace!

  • S. Ali, Thank You for stopping by. Yup so agree with wholeheartedly the importance of nutrition. I used to have a checklist from 1-30 days and I would always mark it if I ate something vegetables or fruits. I still implement this with my son's diet. It helps a lot because it's all abut awareness. Anyway still do have my cravings, chips my weaknesses. Just managing my intake is all. Thanks for stopping by. Glad to have you! :)

  • Wonderful list Therese!

I love the 8-8-8 rule...never heard of it before, but it definitely caught my attention which is a sign to me that I should start practicing it ;-)

LOVE your smoothie and your raw lifestyle! :-)

Thanks so much for revealing your daily habit to us all! Definitely makes sense why you're always so cheerful in your videos...all success is created through daily positive habits and rituals, and you certainly have a great one in place.

Keep up the great work Therese!

  • Thanks Jomo, I was not always consistent for sure. And I still do have my 'cravings' here & there. I think the key is to really be conscious of the lifestyle choices everyday and look to your habits. I also enjoyed the 8-8-8 rule when I first heard of it. Thanks for stopping by so great to have you here.. Have a great week! :))

  • Awesome simple outline Therese!

I've really put more focus on my physically taking care of myself because the effect it has on my thoughts and emotions is huge. i've been drinking my weight in ounces of water everyday (ionized water too boot) and I can't tell you how much energy I have again.

    SO simple!

Rituals are such a powerful tool in our lives to assist us in more energy, passion and vitality. Thank you for the kick ass tips! :-)

  • HI Tony, Thanks for stopping by ;) Always great to hear from you. Yeah I have to constantly remind myself about the water. Much of what I mention here I'm still striving to in my daily life. It is definitely a practice worth mastering. And yes I do enjoy the rituals. It's great to share the health ritual since it's a big part of my life. Thank You Tony!
