Better than Resolutions: My 3 words for 2010 Love Action Bridge

Have you set your goals for 2010?
How about vision boards/dream boards?
Have you also attach a personal mission statement?
How about personal mantra, affirmations, & visualizations?
I was up until 5am thinking about this……
We are coming up interesting times in the history of mankind. Thinking about 2009 shortfalls and shortcomings is not going to change anything. The only thing we need to change is our MINDSET and our ATTITUDE. We need to chart a new course.
MAKE A DECISION THAT THIS YEAR IS GOING TO BE A YEAR OF GREAT OPPPORTUNITY.
Some will see it.
Some won’t.
Who gets to decide?
You do!!! And that’s EXCITING!!!!!!
I have something to share with you today about my 3 words that I adapted from Chris Brogan a well-known pro-blogger and co-author of the book Trust Agents: Using the Web to build Influence, Improve Reputation, and earn Trust.
Chris Brogan shares 3 words that helped him FRAME his thinking and also guides him in his personal action. I truly liked it and resounded with his message. These words are your inner compass or GPS.
Here’s how it works
“Pick three words that help you the way a lighthouse helps a ship in a storm. Give yourself a word that guides you towards a powerful new opportunity, and that keeps you focused on what comes of this year. Use these words as starting points for tangible goals, SMART goals that can be measured and have dates to accomplish tasks by. These words sit above the actual goals, and set your guiding principles in place.”
These words are your:
- Target (not resolutions)
- Zip files or icons for large ideas.
- Reminders of all that you intend to accomplish
Here’s Mine
They are very PERSONAL. I am pretty sure if you come up with yours it will be different.
Love
My Intention and my heart’s desire this year is to do everything OUT of LOVE. Goethe mentions “we are shaped and fashioned by what we love” so I want Love to be my lighthouse that guides my everyday thoughts, actions, and deeds.
This also takes precedence over anything because of my #1 goal to be better in my relationships and prioritized self-nourishing activities such as meditation, yoga, exercises, etc…Living in tune with mind, body, spirit, & emotions. Also to have lots of FUN, ADVENTURE, MAGICAL MOMENTS with my family.
And I will also include this word, especially, when times are tough. Yes! Just like you. I have my down times. I want to be reminded to be STRONG! To be a believer and always have faith!
These refer to my goals in spirituality family/home, relationships, Lifestyle, fitness goals, mental, health etc…
Action
As I reflected, back on my 2009 habits, behavior, and daily agenda. There was always one thing that I know I could DO better. Yup you got it!
ACTION
Now I’m not beating myself up or anything. I am happy for what I have accomplished, thus far, but I know it could be dramatically improved. Action for me also means rapid growth.
Here are ways I will implement
1.) Be rigorous in planning
2.) relentless commitment
3.) Clarity of purpose & Mission
4.) Respect momentum
5.) Tenacity of Spirit
Also when it comes to action, I want to remind myself to be patient. Personal development legend Jim Rohn shares the farming mentality, “plant the seed, garden, tend, cultivate, then you harvest.” In my last post “Making a Difference” I mentioned that the universe operates through dynamic exchange. Hence the ebb & flow in life. I want to practice the “law of least effort” and let the universe do its job. Life moves in its natural progression. Life gives YOU WHAT YOU ARE not what you want.
These refers to my goals in business, financial, Physical/health/fitness, parenting, blogging, relationships, & lifestyle
Bridge
One thing that gives me deep satisfaction is RELATIONSHIPS. I have guided my relationship based on this quote “ The three things we crave most in life –happiness, freedom, and peace of mind –are always attained by giving them to someone else” I approach ALL my relationships by giving. This year and every year I find a way to purposefully plan to deepen and nurture my relationships with those I love.
This year is the YEAR of the TRIBES. I can’t wait for you to MEET them. They are visionaries, healers, value-adders, artists, thinkers, Leaders, Inspirers, and connectors.
What can I do to serve those I love & my tribes? I will do it in 4 ways which is to:
- ASK
- SHARE
- GIVE VALUE
- BE A CONNECTER
Mastering the true art of relationship building will be my focal point for sure. To me everything comes in FULL CIRCLE when I am helping, encouraging, giving value, connecting, and loving.
So, I have shared my 3 words that are important to me in helping me achieve the highest quality in LIFE this year.

Hey Therese,
It is amazing that this is what you shared, in my journal on Thursday night, instead of resolutions I chose three words for my life this year…Mind, Body, & Soul/Spirit….I chose these to be my base words for the 2010 year and I will base my goals and aspirations on these words and use them as my reminder every day…..With each new opportunity (or challenge) that comes my way this year I want to refer back to these words and truly ask myself, “will this action move my life foward in either mind, body, or spirit”
This is awesome…..

Great post. Much value was taken from that on my end being that I never thought of putting my focus on principle words rather than material achievement, so thank you.
Now that my thoughts turn to that, I would say that the 3 guiding words for the new year would be…..
Growth, results, and contribution
Growth is ever important in my life being that in life your either growing or dying its unfortunate for those that don’t realize it
Results is actually a word I use becuse in the past I have denied myself from measuring success thru material achieve… alot of head garbage! But now rather I have chosen not to allow the past to equal my future and use results as the measuring stick for my growth… and for the growth that is immeasurable I leave with
Contribution there is not much I can say on this that isn’t already known for me personally though contribution would have to be the way that my spirit shows its growth to the world thru helping others.

For me the 3 words are:
Love: let love be the space where all my thoughts, words, and actions come from. In my personal life, in my relationships with others, with all living beings, with all existence.
Water: to be more like water. Allow, allow, allow, flowing gently down the stream. To embody strength through gentleness…
Clarity: to get really clear on my purpose and vision and make sure each step brings me closer to them.

My three words this year that I am focusing on:
Surrender: the law of effortless, knowing that everything is perfect, provided, guided, and well taken care of.
Love: expressing my love freely.
Passion: nourishing the things I’m most passionate about, and keep watering the seed. So that in time, I will be able to see it blossom. This also pertain to relationship. Up close and personal friends and family, and also my networking community. I guess by embracing my passion of connecting with people, allows me to have more enriching relationship.

I would have to say my 3 words would be Compassion, Forgiving, and Faith. Without compassion the world would be blind, without forgiveness, the world would drown in guilt, and without faith and commitment, the world would be in darkness and directionless.

I haven’t got any word setup for me this year. But if there’s one it would be “possible.” As I journey into my life I make it possible to make an effort to achieve the things that I want in life. I find it much fulfilling to make little steps than to brood on my dreams.

This is amazing – I do believe this is perhaps the only goal/resolution worth striving for. If more people made this their overwhelming goal, the whole world would be so different!

I always remind to my 2 young daughters: no need to look up at the peak of the hill. Climb it and once up there, you can admire the view. I guess people who succeeded like you are the best proof of that analogy: you worked hard, had a great discipline and here you are in the seat that you dearly fought for and largely deserved.
