I heard this recently “success is a moving target.”  Ultimately, the primary ingredient that will matter the most in the end, are the quality relationships you have with the people you love.  So I would suggest defining what success means to you when accessing your true inner happiness.  I think it is always the feelings we have about ourselves that matter.

For example:

I feel successful to have a great relationship with God. I feel successful to have a husband that’s wonderful, creative, loving, and supportive.  I feel successful that I’m raising my son with holistic health, a positive mindset, and encouraging the genius inside him.  I feel successful to take care of my health every day, and to not take physical fitness for granted.  I feel successful to be given an opportunity at my current work to be innovative, passionate, and lead with example.  I feel successful that I have a platform such as this blog to share my thoughts, feelings, and experiences.  I feel successful to have enriching and deep relationships with my family, friends, and relatives.

The list goes on and on….

How about you? How do you define success?

Stop for a minute. Stop reading this post. Who loves you? Who do you love? Without first allocating time for people close to your life, you will fail. Your goals should look like this:

Health
Relationships
Career/Financial
Personal contribution

Instead of :

Career/Financial
Family
Health

Life is made up of deep rich and meaningful relationships.  I want to tell you a story:
Recently, my twin sister and I took my mom to a spa day.  It was the most exhilarating time we had in a looonnnggg time.  It felt so good to make time for our mom.  We took her for a day of massage, manicure, pedicure, and facial.  It didn’t matter how much we spent that day but what made us feel so good about this experience was making her smile.  It was priceless.

Remember at the end of your life you’re not going to be thinking about how much money you made over the years, or the educational achievements you’ve had. At the end of your life, you’re going to be thinking was I really there for my family?  Did I really do my best to be there for them?  Remember that life is zooming by so fast.

Money should be the least indicator of wealth.

Here are my valuable advices in accessing your inner happiness every day.

1.)   Find time for your health everyday. I stress on this all the time.  Check out my post “10 Tips for a better healthy lifestyle-honor &love your body.”  Get serious about taking care of your mind, body, emotions, and spirit.

2.)   Live with strong purpose. What is your calling in life?  Here is my perspective about discovering your life’s purpose.  Click here.  Give your best every day.  If you are living your highest potential in life you’re never going to feel these 2 myths.

3.)  Remember that the software drives the hardware. Then what are you saying to say to yourself everyday. Is it mostly mindset of “lack” or abundance?  Remember you attract most what you feel inside.

4.)   Transform your mindset from “What’s in it for me” to “how can I serve.” (Thanks Wayne Dyer for this philosophy) Service can go along way whether it’s listening to someone, giving back through volunteering, helping someone move, being compassionate and tithing.

Access your Inner Happiness by answering these questions- by Brian Tracy

1.)   What would it take for me to be perfectly happy?

2.)   In what situations in my life, and with whom, am I not perfectly happy?

3.)   In looking over my life, where and when have I been the happiest?  Where was I, with whom was I, and what was I doing?

Love this post and video Therese! Those myths are so prevalent for so many people. It's been such a beautiful summer here in Maine and wherever you look, there are so many reasons to feel good. The ocean is so abundant, the beautiful trees and flowers, the smiles on people walking in the streets... it's amazing how simple and easy it is to be happy!!

Thanks again and I love hearing your wisdom!

@Sue Hey sweetie how you been? I am so jealous! I wanna go to Maine. I hear great things about Maine. Yeah I agree with you. Happiness is a practice at first then it becomes a habit. I have had the happiness juice flowing throughout my life. So inspiring to be around people like you that feels the same way. I feel truly blessed! I love your wisdom as well Thanks for always sharing generously.
  • Love this message Therese. It's right in line with where I find myself right now:

"The past cannot survive in your presence. It can only survive in your absence."-Eckhart Tolle

Be mindfully present of your "now." I think the same goes for looking into the future for our happiness as well as you pointed out. The myth of "when."

There's a gift in today, that's what it's called "The Present."

It's the attachments to things outside of ourselves that we find ourselves giving away our power. Giving away our power of now.

Great reminder and wonderful message Therese! Thank you!

Hi Tony, that’s quite a powerful quote by Eckhart Tolle. WOW! I might have to repost that. The myth of when and seeing success as an illusion of ‘mirage’ for a lot of people once you fully arrive at that moment. It’s hard for you to accept and fully be content. It’s gives you that feeling of ‘wanting more’ and more…Irrespective to one’s financial, career or business goals one should always accept where they are at the moment, that they have a chance to make a difference, small or big way As I was also reminded today, "Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it."
  • This is a fantastic nice video. You are very spiritual and deep! I really enjoyed this post because I didn't know much about the 2 myths before. Great points on living and focusing in the present more than letting those myths getting in a way of your happiness. It's true what they said how best things in life are free huh? Thanks for sharing such a valuable advice & tips.

Hi Justin, How are you? Glad to have you here. Live in the present moment, be in gratitude, breath, relax, enjoy, and have fun. Your mind creates this neural pathway in the brain of both positive and negative experiences. 80% percent of the time you can choose to create and up grade your thoughts to a more positive state. I thought that was interesting regardless of your situation. I also think success is ‘inside out’ rather than ‘outside in’ as you begin to uplift the higher potential of your being the more you will draw upon to yourself more good & positive experiences (thus the law of cause and effect, the law of increase etc.) Thanks for stopping by Justin glad you received value from it. I look forward to seeing you here again :)
  • Thanks for this wonderful post and the video, Therese. It is very relevant to some of my recent experiences! It is also a great reminder about the 2 myths which I've also been subject to, to varying degrees. It is very true that the importance of relationship or companionship is often overlooked, while it is actually crucial for inner happiness.

    Grateful that you are you,
    Andre

HI Andre, Thanks for stopping by. I know what you mean. I have been subjected to it as well. One thing that I do my best is not to postpone happiness or put it in lay away. It is always about the deep and rich meaningful connections that makes it all worth it. Thank You for being here and for shedding some light in the topic. I appreciate your words as always ;)
  • Therese, it was a perfect post for me to read today. I also came across some articles talking about success today and different definitions of success. Of course there is no such thing as "right" or "wrong" success and everybody defines it for him/herself. I do agree with you that success is not money. Success is not even about fame or popularity. It is not about building an amazing career.
In my opinion success is about balancing the most important areas in life in a manner that lets you feel accomplished, lets you enjoy life and take care of somebody else besides yourself. When all this comes together I see happiness and serenity.
I love reading your posts, Therese, so much because I feel so close to your ideas and your mindset. BTW, do you have an identical or fraternal sister? I would love to talk to you about growing up with a twin-sister because I often have so many questions about my girls (identical twins).
Thanks again for your insightful and inspiring words.

Thank You Anastasiya for stopping by. You always astonish me with the contents and information in your blog. I am happy to reciprocate and do the same for you. Yeah success can be defined by different things to many people and there are no right or wrong answers. Ultimately, I do feel that it is in the little moments that the spirit of LIFE is taking place and sometimes we totally miss it because we are thinking too much of the future (Oh when I buy that next home in ___, when I graduate I’ll be happy, when my kids are in school I’ll have more time___”) Life is totally be cherished in all situations. Goals are very important to me and so is financial but I never lose sight of seeing in beauty in the little things.
My twin sister and I are fraternal. I am more than happy to speak with you anytime in regards to twins. I know their bond alone is mystical. It definitely requires lots of patience also to raise twins so I applaud you for doing so admirably with balanced and ease.
Thanks for being here again. Much Love to You ;)
  • Hey Therese!

Fantastic video and post! You touched on so many key points and everything really starts with you. I don't mean that in a narcissistic way but I mean is: if you want to be a better person, spouse, friend, parent, business person, you need to work and develop "you" first. Reading your post reminds me so much of the Toltec way of life (which I'm passionate about).

    Janette :)
  • theresemiu
    Hi Janette,

Thanks for mentioning that my post reminds you of the "Toltec way of life" We are really artists capable of creating our own lives from the mindset we bring to every situation. And success is 'inside out' not 'outside in'. Thank You for your support and stopping by today. I appreciate it! :))
  • You are so right, Therese. Abundance comes in many forms. The sun shines equally on all forest trees. The rain does not sprinkle down on a select few. Life is wonderfully fair that way. Life can pay you richly or sparsely - it is up to us to see the abundance that is surrounding us.

    Hi Rob,
What a glowing comment Thank You for always sharing, giving, and supporting. I appreciate it beyond words.
My friend wrote me this before (not sure where she got it from) I wrote it down and read from time to time esp. when I need a reminder:
"I live in a Universe of abundance! There is abundance everywhere. I look at the vastness of the ocean, the pebbles on the beach, the fishes in the sea, the trees everywhere, the stars in the sky, the birds of the air, the beauty of the mountains and I know that the Source that supplies the Universe with its abundance is the same Source that supplies my every need."

    Thank You :)
